I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting. I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Geocache Description:

Cache is off the beaten path. You may have to look for awhile. Terrain is flat, but may be muddy, and there may be some Poison Ivy and bugs!

Starting on October 14, 1955, some 13 inches of rain fell on the Norwalk River basin. Since the ground was still saturated from Hurricanes Connie and Diane, the rain produced massive flooding. Buildings, dams, roads and bridges were destroyed. Check www.norwalkriver.org/1955 for pictures and details!
One bridge that was destroyed was the southern access to Wilton Center. The bridge was replaced with state and federal funds, but in the meantime, the railroad crossing was deemed unsafe and unnecessary, since a higher more flood resistant bridge was less than a half mile upstream. The crossing was closed and the bridge became the "Bridge to Nowhere"; a name I first heard when I lived across the street in the mid 60s. One, lone house sat across the river until it burned down in the early 80s. Today an office building and a park are found on the other side of the bridge. Park there. Folowing the river you can see the remains of an old dam that was built to back up a swimming hole. It was destroyed in the flood also.
If you fish, bring a rod. The cache contains a FTF prize which could be worth over $3000! Also Ardea the Travel Bug is there. There is a State Quarter for each New England state, a sewing kit, a paper clip, a small Phillips screwdriver, a George, a red highlighter, a CW2 pin, Pierce Fire Engine pin, earplugs (for if your SO snores) and the logbook.
