What a surprise & a hidden treasure nestled between 2 highways! We knew that there used to be a restaurant here (off the Saw Mill River Parkway), but never realised that there was such a nice park! After the big Blackout of 2003, the wife member of our 2 man team felt the need to go out & do some Geocaching...so 9 hours after the power came back on (instead of 9 months - LOL)...the birth of our newest cache!
From the parking lot, follow the trail to the left of the lake (there's another one on the other side, across the footbridge), past the Westchester Hunger Memorial, & about .26 of a mile in from the trail start & Memorial. This memorial is for the famine in Ireland from 1845-1851 & in hopes that no one ever has to go through something similar again. Interesting, larger-than-life sculptures & some sort of triangular rock formations. Plenty of benches around both sides of the park for resting or picnicing. ENTER FROM THE SAW MILL RIVER PARKWAY!PLENTY OF PARKING IN LOT...DO NOT PARK ON THE PARKWAY! This is a good cache for the whole family! Also, please note...the sign that says Construction! Do Not Enter refers to the old restaurant, not to the park...there were plenty of people walking/cycling around the park. Only downfall to this park is the noise from the 2 highways.
