During the weekend of August 2-3, 2003 the Minnesota Sports Federation presented the Women's Slow Pitch Class C State Tournament at the Rich Valley Sports Complex in Inver Grove Heights. It was a busy park all weekend, with four fields being used continuously.
On Sunday morning, an unused field in the rear corner of the park came to life. The Indians and the Mudhens, teams from the Twin Cities Men's Adult Baseball League, met for a double-header.
Chief, A.J. and K-Dogg are three members of the team. They are high school buddies, who played VFW baseball, American Legion baseball, and were on a pretty good high school team - CHHS 2000
Chief didn't get to play much, but he was a decent first baseman. He was also a left-handed hitter with some power. A.J. played third base, and was occasionally used as a relief pitcher. K-Dogg came to life his senior year, playing a very solid left field. A patient hitter, he led the Section in walks.
All three dreamed of continuing with baseball in college:
Chief attended a community college, and played ball for two years. A.J. was one of 95 players who attended try-outs for his state college team. He was not one of the 35 who made the cut. K-Dogg became very active in his secondary sport, and has won over $3000 ~edit~ $7000 $8000 in scholarships.
So the three continue, on a men's league. A.J. has become a very good pitcher, the ace on the team. Chief is a solid first baseman, and has been one of the leaders in homeruns for the past 3 years. K-Dogg has struggled with his hitting this year, and may be losing interest in the game. ~edit~ K-Dogg only played 3-4 games in the 2004 season. His heart wasn't in it. He qualified for a national bowling tournament in Dallas, and finished ranked #200 in the nation, of 1000's of youth bowlers. ~edit~ K-Dogg played no ball in 2005. In 2006 he will play on a men's softball team
K-Dogg's brother has joined the Mudhens for his rookie season on a men's team.
That game between the Indians and the Mudhens? Chief hit a 390 foot homerun. When I went to retrieve the ball, a cache fell out of my pocket, commemorating the 3 Amigos and the success of Chief, in * A Meaningless Game. *
