The cache is located 0.2 mi off of a seasonally maintained county road accessible by all types of vehicles. The road is not snowplowed in winter. I would recommend setting a GPS waypoint for your vehicle on this one.
The cache is located within 40 feet of an old Spar Pole lookout used by the Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC). It is a regular sized ammo box. The Spar Pole was place there sometime in the late 1930's and was used as a forest fire lookout point. Be sure and walk over to the Spar Pole and look up at the crows nest platform and imagine standing on it in a strong wind on a sunny spring day. The steps have been removed and the pole is to rickety to climb. The trees around it now were just seedlings when the pole was put there. You can parked at N44 19.972 W 85 56.974 or if you have a 4x4, it's possible to drive about 450 ft up the two track road toward the cache. (note) During the Michigan deer rifle season (Nov 15-30) you will need to wear hunter orange to this one.
