Geocache Description:

The first and oldest Geocache in Zimbabwe. Placed in a scenic location on the summit of Susurumba mountain just outside the Rhodes Nyanga National Park, in the beautiful Eastern Highlands area of the country. The hike up to the cache is excellent for bird watching and maybe you might also see some other animals like monkeys or baboons. There isn’t anything dangerous to be afraid of though.

ACCESS
Driving from Rusape take the turn off to the PINE TREE INN before Juliasdale. Park at the Inn car park and then walk across the little dam wall just below the Inn and pick up the trail on the opposite bank. The climb is steep in places, but any fit person will manage and the trail is marked all the way to the summit. Do not attempt the climb after 4:00pm or in very bad weather.

APPROACH
It takes about 90 minutes round-trip to reach the top and return. Follow the trail and climb to the top of the mountain. At the summit find the rocky beacon and stand by it. Now move to your east, cross over the gulley and stand near the edge of the rock face looking in the direction of the Inn below (bearing 050 degrees). You will find the cache buried in a crevice nearby.

NOTE
The cache is located on private property belonging to the hotel, but the manager is aware of it and has been told to expect cache seekers in the future. Do let them know if you find it.

There are also some ruins at the summit which provide archaeological interest.
