Geocache Description:

This virtual cache is in the forest of Kephalonian fir trees in the Ainos range.

The Kephalonian fir tree is unique to Greece and is now protected. The trip to this cache therefore offers a unique opportunity to see the trees and enjoy the forest. The cache is a survey point and is easily identifiable. Leave Argostoli on the road to Sami and continue upward until the road forks right towards a Radar station signed to "Enos". After the Radar station the tarmac ends and the road continues as a loose surface single track and it is recommended to use a jeep type vehicle (Although we did see cars in the area). Proceed along the track past the TV transmitter until a board by the side announces the start of a walk at Chionistra to Megas Soros.

At N38°08.227 E020°39.884 park at the side of the road and carry on on foot following the waymarked (Green square on Yellow background) "path" to the cache - It takes around 20 minutes each way - Bring suitable footwear for a stony climb. E-mail the date on the survey point to me to claim the cache.

NOTE: A recent visitor has reported that the road from the Radar Station to the Telecommunication masts has been improved and it is now much easier to visit.

To those adding comments about the log book, it is a virtual cache - there is no log book. Anything there other than the view (and the date on the survey point) has nothing at all to do with Geocaching.

I lost interest in geocaching several years ago but retained my two virtual caches because they are no longer allowed and hark back to the days when they were intended to attract visitors to places of interest that they may otherwise have overlooked. Sadly now people seem to be more concerned with the numbers than anything else and I grow weary of the incessant demands of many (usually Premium members who should know better) to be allowed to log the caches even though they have failed to fulfil the stated requirements. I take no pleasure in debating the finer points of geocaching with these dullards and each one brings me closer to abandoning the caches for good.
