This cache has been archived.

Alpine Reviewer: As I have not received an update from the cache owner, I am archiving this cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you (the cache owner) wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, please contact me, and assuming it meets the guidelines, I will be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Altitude 8489'

This cache was placed by veterans of the U.S. Army Security Agency who served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Our mission was to gather intelligence via electromagnetic emissions (radio waves), and pass that intelligence on to unit commanders and further up the chain of command. The Army Security Agency existed from 1945 to 1976, so the number of ASA veterans is finite and growing smaller as the years go by.

The cache contains quite a few unique and historically significant items of military memorabilia. If you plan to take something from the cache, please leave an item of equal significance.

When placed, the cache contained:
Remember 9/11/01 sticker
ASA patch trivet
"Wally the Spook" trivet
Vietnam Memorial desk set (minus pen & pencil)
Beach sand from Omaha Beach, France (film can)
Beach sand from Oahu (R&R site) (film can)
Australian flag in remembrance of the 547th Signals Regt.
ASA hat pin
Cigarette for a fallen comrade
INSCOM patch (the unit that took over ASA's job)
Veterans History Project pin
Vietnam Vets Memorial Fund pin
Vietnam Vets Memorial Fund key chain
Vietnam Veteran Travel Bug

I was able to visit the cache and replace the logbook on 7/29/04. We should be good for a lot of visits now!
