Geocache Description:

Easy drive to the area, the entry road may be tough on wet days.

This is a story of heroic effort and tragedy. Edgar Miller was a ranch hand, 18 years of age. He took on an excursion in July of 1864 that cost him his life. Riding to seek medical aid for a very ill woman, he found trouble in this hostile land.

He rode fearlessly across the prairie in spite of Indian raids in the area. He was captured by Cheyenne warriors and tortured to death. He was left on the prairie under a few weeds to cover their act. Ed Miller took his fastest horse, as the story goes, but it obviously was not fast enough! The story is well documented in detail at:

To claim the cache, we want to know the party that placed the rose granite historical marker behind Miller's tombstone. Miller's marker faces west, it is back to back with the historical marker.

Unfortunately, the area has been heavily vandalized by partying teenagers. You may obtain a key to enter the area from Olson's Mortuary in Canton or make the short hike in. The dis-respect shown by those that trashed the area is a tragedy in itself. Miller's original marker was destroyed and this is a replacement.

Virtual logs will be deleted, you must visit the site. It seems like cachers in the European block have figured out a different approach to geocaching, you are to visit the location, not obtain the answer from a previous finder.
