Geocache Description:

This is the first traditional cache created in greater Athens area. It is placed in Parnes mountain (hence the name) at altitude 783 m, about one hour driving time from the northern outskirts of the city. The cache is placed outside the limits of the National Park in order to avoid violation of the regulations.

The cache consists of a clear-body tupperware with a white lid. It is comprehensively marked about what it is about. It is placed behind the altar of the tiny church of Aghia Paraskevi (a hikers' crossroad). There are two big pine trees - one just behind the altar and one with a smaller trunk next to it and on its northern side (see hints for last details). You can get there easily. Once you get to Aghia Trias Parnithos (by own car or by public transport) you can either walk or drive. The harder way (more fun and what we did) is by walking northbound onto the circular asphalt road, at Pan's saddle towards southwest onto the dirt road, at some point later you follow the arrows onto the forest trail, up the "platy vouno" (broad mountain) , through two small plateaus, down to the spot via the "Roumani" spring. The easier way is by car and via the network of the forest dirt roads you get close to the spot, leave the car and get there by only a few minutes walk. Either way, once you are there and you have found the cache you are very close to the stream running through the nearby gorge which is at a point overlooked by "Pan's cave" and "Arma" (chariot) summit. Having a hiker's map at hand is always a very good idea.

The cache contains: 1 logbook and 1 pen, 1 geocaching declaration in clear polypocket, 1 clear plastic bag, 1 packet of paper tissues, 1 blue ornamental box containing christening martyr pins, 1 pair of AA batteries, 1 hair band (ornamented with a plastic strawberry), 1 rubber band, 1 small plastic toy (Baloo from "jungle book"), 2 bandages, 1 nail file, 2 shells (Maria's contribution) and 1 original Athens 2004 pin.
