Sun Never Sets on Respect for Veterans Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

The Infielders: I wanted to somehow get in touch with the park manager to figure out a way to keep this cache in the park. But I went to check on the cache on 1/27/04 and it's gone. There has been some burning in the areas all around the cache but not where the cache itself was. At any rate, the cache is gone so this one is archived. Thanks to all who cached this one. It was one of the 1st I placed after I moved home to Florida. I hope everyone enjoyed the sun dial and the park.

I truly hope the county parks dept. will work with geocachers and realize we do a lot of good by being in parks. I also hope the park managers do something to clean up the sexual activity of the few who choose to turn tricks in the park. This problem is rampant in this park and several other county parks (Lake Seminole is also known for it). Maybe if a park manager reads this post, he or she will do a drive through each day and make mental notes of the cars in their parks. They'll see it's the same people in there day after day. That on the surface isn't illegal but let's be honest and not stupid; what those people are doing in the parks is illegal and is a big problem in what is supposed to be a park for everyone to enjoy.

Geocache Description:

Veterans Memorial Park at Bay Pines. There is a really cool sundial in the park and the cache is near the sundial. It should be easy to find, the terrain is flat and easily navigable.

I intended to archive this cache in mid-December but I thought it over and doing that is the wrong thing to do. This cache has had more than 50 cachers come to it so far, it's had a lot of travel bugs in it and the area where it's placed is an area people NEED to see.

***BEWARE OF SNAKES IN THIS AREA*** I scouted this area out and was thinking about snakes and while near the sundial, I saw a black racer snake. So there are snakes in the area, PLEASE BE CAREFUL. While hiding the cache the next day, I saw a cotton tail rabbit, so there are wild animals in the area, too. Please don't feed them as the park signs remind you not to. Now on to the cache. The sundial is worth the trip. The park is open sunrise to sunset so you should be able to actually use the sundial to see the true local time. At the sundial site are flags for each branch of the U.S. military and the Coast Guard. The park is dedicated to veterans and I think it's a really nice place for a picnic and to see the sights too. Bay Pines is in the middle of Boca Ciega Bay so there are plenty of things to see. The cache is a plastic container about the size of a quart. Please sign the log. Happy caching!
