Geocache Description:

This cache is at Lye-Brook falls. Due to living out of the area and being unable to maintain a regular cache box, 251 Big Dogs has placed a new cache at the falls. It's worth the hike. I believe Lye Brook is the highest falls in the state.

Lye Brook Wilderness

In the heart of the Wilderness, water drops in a series of cascades over Lye Brook Falls, the area's star attraction. The Trail is clearly marked by blue markers. Upon starting your hike, you will soon notice a stream on your right. After you cross a couple of smaller streams (1.1 MILES), the trail will make a wide bend to the right. As you continue your ascent, look carefully for a diagonal crossing of an old railroad bed. On your left, look for a stone wall of the bed, which will soon cross the trail. There will be an arrow there pointing clearly toward the falls (2 MILES). Continue upward on the trail for about 1/3 Mile and suddenly you will hear the falls. As you go farther, you will soon reach a thicket of small Spruce Trees. Go through them and there will be a deep gorge and the remains of the railroad trestle that took trainloads of logs over the stream. To your left and up, you will encounter one of the highest and most beautiful waterfalls in Vermont. Lye Brook is a great hike for the whole family and a lovely place to have lunch. Lye Brook is rated as a moderate hike with a hiking time of approximately 2 ½ hours.

Easiest Access: From the Manchester Ranger Station drive west one-half mile on State Highways 11 and 30 to the East Manchester Road. Turn south on the East Manchester Road and go to Glen Road. Turn onto Glen Road. Just past the first bridge Glen Road bears left. Do not go left. Continue straight ahead approximately one-half mile to the parking lot.

The cache is a 4" diamater piece of pvc pipe. for starters it contains, a golf ball, fishing bobber, thailand pin, race for the cure pin, childs ring, childs bracelet, green frog, and a teletubby, log book and pen.

We wish to thank 251 Big Dogs for the help placing this cache.
