Granite Falls
The Roosevelt Grove of Ancient Cedars was visited by a forester in 1919. His analysis of the area showed that the trees averaged 800 years of age, while many exceeded 2000 years. On his recommendation, the area was set aside as a scenic area in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt in 1943.
Your first stop along the walk to the cache should be Granite Falls, which is located just above the parking area. The falls cascade in unusual fashion down through a wedge cut in a sheer rock wall. The Overlook Trail takes you up to a viewpoint that looks down upon the falls from above and leads you past the Upper Falls before heading into the Grove of Ancient Cedars.
The grove itself is a beautiful, peaceful setting. Some of the trees are in excess of 12 feet in diameter and taller than 150 feet.
The cache container is a drab olive ammo box stenciled with "geocache" in yellow on multiple sides. Also, please note that GPS signal is hard to maintain in the Grove -- you may want to have a copy of the hints and the spoiler pics at the ready when you visit.
