Geocache Description:

20 YEAR CACHE-Unimproved city park. Obey the rules in the prairie restoration area.

Camp Cozy was a recreational resort created in the late 20's and 30's. The idea was that folks from the big city would come to the area and rent a tent on a lot (campsite) in this wilderness part of Minnesota. I guess just like now people needed to get away from it all. One of the biggest features at that time was the water park aspect of the camp. Nestled in the backwaters of the Elk River the patrons would rent canoes and, from the pictures I've seen, dressed in their sunday best, they would float and paddle along the river enjoying the afternoon. Highlight of the canoe trip was the return upstream. Some ahead-of-his time engineer designed and built a lock and dam system to raise the canoes to an elevation above ground sufficent enough to allow them passage along an elevated channel back to where they began their trip. That means that nobody ever had to paddle upstream. How great is that?! Almost all of that stuff is gone now. The city has made part of the area in to a park and it is being returned to native prairie. To get to the park, take Hwy 10 to Upland to Meadowvale to 192nd to Waco. I parked at 45-18.760, 93-37.720 which is the paved cul-de-sac (don't park under the basketball net). If the snow is not too deep there is a parking place and turn around for one vehicle further south on the dirt portion of road. The park is on the west side of this dirt road. Private property on the east side. (notice the buildings, these are residential lots that were created after the tent idea fell through). Cleo and I had a great walk when setting this cache. The trails kind of make a figure 8. There is one picnic table near the middle of the 8. A nice trail cuts through the woods just west of the table. Please sign the log, trade an item if you wish, and cover better than you found it. Enjoy, JK
