Frecky's Architecture and Design Adventure Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

FreckysKids: It appears the store in which our cache was located has disappeared, thus, ditto the cache. We started this cache for our Dad's 86th birthday and he is now 92. 100s of people visited the cache in the ensuing years; the store changed ownership; the store changed location; and now we guess we are done. Thanks everyone for such a great ride! And thanks to Ice and Wind for temporarily disabling the cache. Cheerio -- Frecky's Kids

Geocache Description:

This cache is an 86th birthday present for our father, who is an architect. (His childhood nickname was "Frecky".) Our waypoints are located at 4 of the architectural highlights of his career. Since most big buildings are nervous about boxes hidden nearby, we are making 3 virtual caches and one real. The coordinates above are for the Real Cache only. See below for Virtual Cache coordinates.

Real Cache Waypoint #1 - “Form Follows Function”

Note: Dad was instrumental in helping to save this landmark, and subsequently designed the refurbishing of one big section. Sorry, but parking is hard to find. Get as close to this waypoint reading as possible, then follow the text clues below to locate the actual cache site and white box. This cache is only available during business hours.

Thanks a lot to Misha for originally being open to having our cache; thanks to the new owners for being flexible when they didn't even know they had inherited our cache; thanks again to the new owners for taking the cache with them recently when they 'moved house'; AND thanks to fellow geocacher 'Rose Red' for the updated clues to the slightly new location. We are grateful for the community help on maintaining this cache, now more than 6 years old (and our dad is now 92!). Have fun!

Clues:

1. Hooves everywhere, under foot.
2. Any posts in the alley?
3. The best of Seattle is ahead
4. “Right, Right, if you’re on the Right Track you’ll go Right”
5. You have reached the twilight zone!

Since our father has dedicated his life to design, with the underlying principle that "form follows function", we’d like the theme of the cache objects to be organic items of beauty from nature. Original cache contents include: the logbook journal, an exotic yellow shell, eagle feather, Chinese lantern, chunk of Pyrite, white sea urchin shell, piece of driftwood, pine cone, and a eucalyptus pod. Please take one and leave yours.

Virtual Caches:

Difficulty= * * * Territory= *

We have selected 3 virtual cache sites that Frecky designed during his career. Go to the given waypoint for each site, then follow the text clues to locate something you’ll find that proves you have been there. We had a hard time making satellite connections in the urban canyons of the first 2 virtual locations. An extra gold star to the person who makes it to ALL 3 of these virtual caches!

Virtual Cache #1:
N 47 36.253
W 122 20.145
Accurate to 51’

Locate: McCracken’s Talons, Noguchi, Burke Bldg., Log Cabin Info

Virtual Cache #2:
N 47 36.254
W 122 19.764
Accurate to 30’

Locate: ‘Three Armed Bandit’

Virtual Cache #3:

N 38 44.657
W 9 09.785

Locate: There is a small white 'house' outside the gate. How many windows does it have?

Note: Thanks to Ricardo, whom we have only met through this web site, for finding this waypoint and the clue. Nós não poderíamos tê-lo feito sem você -- obrigado!

Note added in Sept. 2005: We would also like to thank Erin, Mary, and Cheryl for allowing the real cache to continue, when they took over from Misha -- even though they didn't really know what they were getting into! You can thank them -- and keep this cache going -- by buying something!
