Geocache Description:

An easy virtual cache with an interesting piece of history.

This location has a link with history showing the amazing pace of technological development in just over 100 years.

This was the location of the first public transmission of wireless signals, from the roof of what was the Central Telegraph Office. More recently this building was the headquarters of BT (including at the time of the adverts starring Maureen Lipman “you got an ology?”.

BT moved out in 2021 and the building is being redeveloped, hence the building works which prevent the historical plaque being viewed at the moment.

As a result of the building work, I have had to temporarily change the qualification to claim this virtual (8th March 2022). Please take a photo of either you or your caching name (on paper?) together with a giraffe in the background (all will become clear), and post this with your log. Take the photo from somewhere near the coordinates but you don’t have to go in the road

Please do not claim a find unless you are posting this photo at the same time. Logs without the required photo will be deleted.
