> The village of Crozant <
Located in the north-west of the Creuse département, on the border with the Indre department, Crozant is the natural gateway to the Creuse département, the Nouvelle Aquitaine region and the Massif Central via the Creuse valley.
This position led to the construction of one of the most important fortified castles in central France.
Since the dawn of time, pilgrims travelling from the north to Santiago de Compostela have taken this route, which is still relevant today.

> What about the Geology of Crozant? <
The département has a wide variety of metamorphic and crystalline rocks. Plutonic rocks, mostly granitic, predominate. These rocks host a number of small volcanic and/or sedimentary basins.
The Crozant massif consists of a medium-grained facies, with a local porphyroid tendency, with two micas.
Crozant leucogranite, located in the Massif Central region of France, is a remarkable geological formation dating back to the Variscan orogeny, which took place some 300 to 400 million years ago. Composed mainly of quartz, feldspar and muscovite, this light-colored granite is characterized by its fine-to-medium granular texture. It was formed by the intrusion of granitic magma into the surrounding metamorphic rocks, crystallizing slowly at depth. Studied for its valuable information on the pressure and temperature conditions of the time, as well as on magmatic and metamorphic interactions, Crozant leucogranite is also known for its picturesque landscape and spectacular rock formations, making the area a site of both scientific and tourist interest.
But also, along the Sédelle valley, we can observe a valley carved by the meandering of the river and we can also be astonished by this very purplish coloration which is in fact due to the rocky outcrops and the heather which have been replaced today by the development of the forest. these are granite blocks loosened by the flow of water.
