Les Nénettes et Rintintins sont un couple de poupées en laine confectionnées en France, un peu avant la 1ere guerre et devenues aussitôt des portes bonheurs.
A l'origine, Rintintin est la fille et Nénette le garçon mais les genres ont changés en 1913.
Ces deux poupées sont crées par Francisque Poulbot, dessinateur. Il est motivé par son agacement vis à vis de la mainmise allemande sur le secteur du jouet en France. Il l'est commercialise alors en forme de poupées à tete de porcelaine, mais cela lui echappe rapidement.
Elles deviennent alors trés populaire en 1916, généralement faite en fils de laine, reliés par un fil faisant penser à un chapelet, devienent un porte bonheur à offrir au bien aimé, au civil comme au soldat dans le but de le protéger, souvent aussi accroché au cockpit des avions.
Modestes et puerils, Nénette et Rintintin nous font aujourd'hui sourire. Mais dans une guerre qui durait depuis 4 ans et alors que la grippe espagnole frappait, ces objets de superstition avaient une justification. Ils étaient non pas de la propagande, même s'ils y participaient mais d'une culture de guerre nécessaire pour endurer les souffrances quotidiennes. S'il était recommandé aux français de rester "unis comme Nénette et Rintintin", chacun était désormais avide de s'évader du monde guerrier pour aspirer à la paix et croire en l'avenir.

The Nénettes and Rintintins are a couple of wool dolls made in France, a little before the First World War and immediately became lucky charms.
Originally, Rintintin was the girl and Nénette the boy, but the genders changed in 1913.
These two dolls are created by Francisque Poulbot, designer.
He is motivated by his annoyance with German control over the toy sector in France.
He then marketed it in the form of dolls with porcelain heads, but this quickly escaped his attention.
They then became very popular in 1916, generally made of woolen threads, connected by a thread reminiscent of a rosary, becoming a lucky charm to offer to the loved one, to the civilian as well as to the soldier in order to protect them, often also hung in the cockpit of airplanes.
Modest and childish, Nénette and Rintintin make us smile today.
But in a war that had lasted for 4 years and with the Spanish flu hitting, these objects of superstition had a justification.
They were not propaganda, even if they participated in it, but a war culture necessary to endure daily suffering.
If the French were recommended to remain "united like Nénette and Rintintin", everyone was now eager to escape from the warlike world to aspire to peace and believe in the future.

Die Nénettes und Rintintins sind zwei Wollpuppen, die kurz vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg in Frankreich hergestellt wurden und sofort zu Glücksbringern wurden.
Ursprünglich war Rintintin das Mädchen und Nénette der Junge, doch 1913 änderten sich die Geschlechter.
Diese beiden Puppen wurden von der Designerin Francisque Poulbot entworfen.
Seine Motivation ist seine Verärgerung über die deutsche Kontrolle über den Spielzeugsektor in Frankreich.
Anschließend vermarktete er es in Form von Puppen mit Porzellanköpfen, was seiner Aufmerksamkeit jedoch schnell entging.
Im Jahr 1916 erfreuten sie sich dann großer Beliebtheit.
Sie bestanden im Allgemeinen aus Wollfäden, die durch einen Faden verbunden waren, der an einen Rosenkranz erinnerte, und wurden oft zu einem Glücksbringer, den man dem geliebten Menschen, sowohl dem Zivilisten als auch dem Soldaten, schenkte, um ihn zu beschützen hing auch im Cockpit von Flugzeugen.
Nénette und Rintintin sind bescheiden und kindisch und bringen uns heute zum Lächeln.
Aber in einem Krieg, der seit vier Jahren andauerte und in dem die Spanische Grippe ausbrach, hatten diese Objekte des Aberglaubens ihre Berechtigung.
Sie waren keine Propaganda, auch wenn sie sich daran beteiligten, sondern vertraten eine Kriegskultur, die notwendig ist, um das tägliche Leid zu ertragen.
Wurde den Franzosen empfohlen, „vereint wie Nénette und Rintintin“ zu bleiben, wollten nun alle der kriegerischen Welt entfliehen, um nach Frieden zu streben und an die Zukunft zu glauben.
