Geocache Description:

26 May 2024, 10:00 - 10:30

Smallwombats come back to the city for another week of fun and frivolity and where better to kick-start the day then right down town in the cbd.

This is where the original heart of Sydney was designated. To mark the spot they created the obelisk of distances, as the starting point for all distances measured from Sydney. The monument also indicated the furtherest extent of the British Empire in the 1800's. (it's also apparently the earliest surviving monument in Australia, probably created with convict labour.)
Macquarie Park, the small triangular patch of inner city shrubbery left was actually the first formally laid out space in Sydney, functioning as the town square. Along with Hyde Park, it's the oldest public park in Australia.

Seems a fitting location to start the days geoactivities. 😄

Tracey Emin created sixty seven bronze bird statues in and around here, let's see how many we can spy!

Come along to meet new geocachers, catch up with old friends, discuss the days plans or make plans together.

Puzzle discussions are always encouraged. 😄
