Le Rocher à l'Envers du Sorcier du Coz pors 🙃🦧🐢
L'été dernier, je suis allé à une sortie géologique proposée par l'office du tourisme de Trégastel. Le temps pluvieux n'était pas encourageant, pourtant la quinzaine des participants est restée plus d'une heure. Aprés plusieurs explications granitiques, nous sommes arrivés devant ce Rocher du Sorcier. Certains y voit une Sorciére, d'autres les deux, des marins l'aurait appelé le Calculot, moi j'y vois plutôt une Tortue avec sa bouche grande ouverte et son immense carapace ! Parmi les informations qui feront les sujets d'autres earths alentours, comme les crapauds, les tombolos, les schlierens, les macles et autres composants faisant la couleur rose de notre granite local, il y a eu celles autour de ce fameux rocher que je vous propose de regarder de plus près =
Si l'on considére chaque gros bloc de granite rose, il y a une énorme particularité au waypoint sur la plage du Coz pors ! En considérant que l'érosion du granite par l'eau de pluie, les tempétes, les embruns salées ont pour principale incidence de creuser des rigoles d'écoulements de haut en bas assez marquées avec les années ; nous pouvons constater une anomalie ! Hormis la téte de Tortue avec son oeil et sa bouche ouverte, véritable exploit de l'érosion, il y a au milieu en hauteur un bloc rocheux dont les rigoles semblent partir du bas et remonter vers le haut !!! Les rochers du bas, de derriére, et de gauche, ont bien des coulées d'érosion large en haut et diminuant en pointe vers le bas. Mais celui du milieu c'est l'inverse !!! Quelle sorcellerie a bien pu faire pleuvoir du sol vers le ciel, ou quelles vagues rebelles sont elles venues giclées de bas vers le haut ici ?
LECON GEOLOGIQUE : ALTERATION ET EROSION DES CHAOS GRANITIQUE
Ces chaos granitiques sont constitués de « boules » de granite très peu altéré. Quand il pleut, l'eau ruisselle sur ces boules, sèche dès la fin des précipitations et n'altère que très peu la roche des chaos. Par contre, le sol et le sous sol situés à la base des chaos restent longtemps imbibés de l'eau de ces précipitations. Cette eau du sol et du sous-sol, rendue plus acide par le CO2 issus de la respiration des organismes du sol et par les acides humiques produit par la décomposition incomplète de la matière organique du sol, altère efficacement la roche du sous-sol. Or, les granites sont très souvent parcourus de diaclases. L'altération du granite et sa transformation en « arène granitique » (mélange d'argiles néoformées et de minéraux hérités comme des quartz et des feldspath) se fait donc dans les premiers décimètres ou mètres superficiels du sol, et plus en profondeur le long des diaclases permettant la circulation des eaux souterraines. L'altération le long des diaclases « épargne » les volumes situés entre elles, ce qui produit des « blocs » de granite sain entourés d'arène et de granite altéré, blocs de morphologie anguleuse dans la partie inférieure du profil, de morphologie de plus en plus ovoïde ou sphérique dans la partie supérieure. Des tranchées naturelles (érosion rapide par ruissellement pendant un orage) ou artificielles (carrière, route …) permettent de voir in situ cette arénisation en cours.
Le schéma ci-dessus montre la formation théorique de telles boules dans le sol. Les 2 photographies suivantes montrent de telles boules partiellement dégagées par une rapide érosion actuelle.
Non il est bien à l'envers et cela s'est passé la nuit du 10 et 11 mars 1920. Le bloc était auparavant relié à l'énorme bloc de derrière duquel il s'est détaché dans un fracas assourdissant. Il a roulé sur lui méme et s'est arrété aprés un demi tour pour rester en équilibre à l'envers en hauteur !!! Il faut savoir qu'autrefois, nos ancétres dansaient au pied du Rocher du Sorcier pour le bal des régates de chaque été ! Les baigneurs inconscients s'abritaient sans imaginer que cette pierre tremblante pouvait les menacer ! Cette nuit là, le fracas aurait été entendu jusqu'à Lannion !!!
Pour marquer l’anniversaire en 2020 du renversement du rocher du Sorcier au Coz pors, l'association "Sites et patrimoine" de Trégastel avait lancé l’idée de remettre en place ce monstre de 60 tonnes qui menaçait le chaos de la plage par un équilibre précaire. Contrairement à l’attente de l’association, les instances officielles locales, départementales et nationales ont manifesté un certain intérêt pour ce projet. Aussi faute de pouvoir remettre en état les autres chaos terrestres à cause des contraintes écologiques, l’association a décidé de proposer ce projet patrimonial hors boisement qui recueille également l’assentiment de la population. L’Unesco lui-même qui n’a pas eu de grandes initiatives depuis la mise en sécurité du temple de Ramsés II à Abou Simbel en Egypte semble vouloir s’associer à cette aventure inédite.

The Upside Down Rock of the Sorcerer du Coz pors 🙃🦧🐢
Last summer, I went on a geological outing offered by the Trégastel tourist office. The rainy weather was not encouraging, yet the fifteen participants stayed for more than an hour. After several granite explanations, we arrived in front of this Sorcerer's Rock. Some see it as a Witch, others both, sailors would have called it the Calculot, I see it more as a Turtle with its wide open mouth and its immense shell! Among the information which will be the subjects of other surrounding earths, such as toads, tombolos, schlierens, macles and other components making the pink color of our local granite, there were those around this famous rock that I suggests taking a closer look =
If we consider each large block of pink granite, there is a huge peculiarity at the waypoint on Coz pors beach! Considering that the erosion of granite by rainwater, storms and salt spray has the main impact of digging channels of flow from top to bottom that are quite marked over the years; we can see an anomaly! Apart from the Turtle's head with its eye and its open mouth, a true feat of erosion, there is in the middle high up a rocky block whose channels seem to start from the bottom and go up to the top!!! The rocks at the bottom, behind, and on the left, have erosional flows that are wide at the top and diminish in point towards the bottom. But the one in the middle is the opposite!!! What sorcery could have caused it to rain from the ground to the sky, or what rebellious waves came spurting from below upwards here ?
GEOLOGICAL LESSON: ALTERATION AND EROSION OF GRANITE CHAOS
These granite chaos are made up of “balls” of very little weathered granite. When it rains, the water runs off these balls, dries as soon as the precipitation ends and only slightly alters the chaos rock. On the other hand, the ground and subsoil located at the base of the chaos remain soaked in the water from this precipitation for a long time. This water from the soil and subsoil, made more acidic by CO2 from the respiration of soil organisms and by humic acids produced by the incomplete decomposition of organic matter in the soil, effectively alters the rock in the subsoil. However, granites are very often covered with joints. The alteration of granite and its transformation into “granite arena” (mixture of newly formed clays and inherited minerals such as quartz and feldspar) therefore takes place in the first decimeters or superficial meters of the soil, and deeper along the joints allowing the circulation of groundwater. Alteration along the joints “spares” the volumes located between them, which produces “blocks” of healthy granite surrounded by arena and altered granite, blocks with an angular morphology in the lower part of the profile, with a morphology of more more ovoid or spherical in the upper part. Natural (rapid erosion by runoff during a storm) or artificial (quarry, road, etc.) trenches make it possible to see this ongoing arenaization in situ. The diagram above shows the theoretical formation of such balls in the ground. The following 2 photographs show such balls partially released by current rapid erosion.
No, it is upside down and it happened on the night of March 10 and 11, 1920. The block was previously connected to the enormous block behind which it broke away with a deafening crash. He rolled over and stopped after half a turn to remain balanced upside down at height!!! You should know that in the past, our ancestors danced at the foot of the Sorcerer's Rock for the regatta ball each summer! The unconscious bathers took shelter without imagining that this trembling stone could threaten them! That night, the crash would have been heard as far away as Lannion !!!
To mark the anniversary in 2020 of the overthrow of the Sorcier rock at Coz pors, the Trégastel “Sites and heritage” association launched the idea of putting back in place this 60-ton monster which threatened the chaos of the beach by a precarious balance. Contrary to the association's expectations, official local, departmental and national authorities have shown a certain interest in this project. Also due to the lack of being able to rehabilitate the other terrestrial chaos due to ecological constraints, the association has decided to propose this heritage project outside of afforestation which also receives the consent of the population. UNESCO itself, which has not had any major initiatives since the securing of the temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel in Egypt, seems to want to be associated with this unprecedented adventure.
