Geocache Description:

Until about four years ago the toilets in the pavilion in this park were kept locked. They were only available with 48 hours notice and a bunch of paper work to the Dunedin City Council. A petition called "Don't Pee in the Park" to the DCC started on 30 April 2019 and set in motion events that led to the daily opening of these toilets. The DCC said that in the past, when they were open, vandalism was experienced on several occasions. I found a facebook posting from not all that much later that said that they will be open from 8am to 6pm in winter and 7:30am to 9:30pm in summer and that they will be cleaned daily.

The toilets are located at the rear of the pavilion and accessed from the rear. Just be mindful of the babbling brook nearby if you have little ones with you. It isn't the most attractive of entrances as you walk pased locked doors with signs saying that they are alarmed. Any windows have metal grills covering them. Anyway, the men's and women's are adjacent to each other and the outer doors are open. Internal and external walls are concrete blocks and the inside floor is also concrete.

The women's consists of two units, one larger than the other but I didn't see any hand rails. The swing doors are secured from the inside by a bolt. The cisterns are recessed behind the concrete block walls from which a dual flow stainless steel flush button protrudes. Each unit has two large toilet paper rolls. there was at least one sanitary disposal unit. I observed one coat hook.

The stainless steel hand basin it in the common area between the two units. above was a soap dispenser unit. I didn't observe and drying facilities.

Lighting is provided from the open external door and the glass slated windows as well as overhead light bulbs.

I was able to get a glimpse into the men's from the open doorway and there appears to be a urinal for one against the back wall and one cubical.

Getting to the cache is is relatively easy going until the final few metres. Footware with a good tread will help for that final scramble. Just make sure that the cache container doesn't go rolling down the hill while signing the log.
