🦁 Das Löwendenkmal (DE)

Das Löwendenkmal befindet sich im Zentrum Luzerns und erinnert in der Allegorie eines sterbenden Löwen an die am 10. August 1792 beim Tuileriensturm in Paris gefallenen Schweizergardisten. Es entstand auf Initiative des Gardeoffiziers Karl Pfyffer von Altishofen, zur Erinnerung an seine Kameraden. Der dänische Bildhauer Bertel Thorvaldsen fertigte einen Entwurf an, aber das Denkmal wurde von dem Konstanzer Bildhauer Lukas Ahorn von März 1820 bis August 1821 in den Sandsteinfelsen gehauen.

Die Einweihung des etwa zehn mal sechs Meter grossen Denkmals fand am Jahrestag 1821 statt. Es ist eines der bekanntesten Denkmäler der Schweiz, jährlich wird es von etwa 1,4 Millionen Touristen besucht. 2006 wurde es unter Schweizer Denkmalschutz gestellt.

Mache ein Foto, wie Du den Löwen streichelst oder kraulst (freiwillig, Beispiel siehe Listing). Alternativ kannst Du vor dem Denkmal ein Bild mit einem persönlichen Gegenstand oder einem Zettel mit Deinem Cachername + Datum machen. Lade das Bild zusammen mit Deinem Logeintrag hoch. Logeinträge ohne Bild werden kommentarlos gelöscht - viel Spass!

🦁 The Lion Monument (ENG)

The Lion Monument is located in the center of Lucerne and, in the allegory of a dying lion, commemorates the Swiss Guards who fell in the Tuileries Storm in Paris on August 10, 1792. It was created on the initiative of Guards officer Karl Pfyffer von Altishofen in memory of his comrades. The Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen produced a design, but the monument was carved into the sandstone rock by the Constance sculptor Lukas Ahorn from March 1820 to August 1821.

The inauguration of the approximately ten by six meter monument took place on the anniversary of 1821. It is one of the most famous monuments in Switzerland and is visited by around 1.4 million tourists every year. It was placed under Swiss monument protection in 2006.
 

Task/ Log conditions
Take a photo of youself stroking or petting the lion (optional, see listing for example). Alternatively, you can take a picture in front of the monument with a personal object or a note with your geocacher's username + date. Upload the picture together with your log entry. Log entries without a picture will be deleted without comment - have fun!
