This cache can only be found during Hope Library's open hours: https://hopelibraryri.org/about. Note that they are closed New Year's Eve 2024, New Year's Day, and January 2nd, 2025. As of December 2024, normal hours were:
Monday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Tuesday – Thursday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Friday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Sunday: Closed
If there is a parking ban in Scituate (usually due to winter storms), the library will be closed. Their phone is (401) 821-7910.
This would be a great cache to seek during bad weather! There is even free coffee and tea inside (on the right after you enter) as well as wifi.
You will collect information outside, filling in the blanks at the posted coordinates, and then proceed in to follow clues to the cache once you have your blanks filled in.
Accessing the information and getting to the cache, including retrieving it, should not be a problem for anyone using a wheelchair. I do not know if the sidewalk around the posted coordinates is plowed if there is lots of snow, though.
Once inside, you will find the standard self-inking Cache Odyssey stamp (in volume I) as well as a hand carved letterbox stamp (in volume II - bring your own ink/markers if you'd like to stamp this one). The volumes are touching each other. Everyone should sign the logbook in volume I - stamping is optional. Because this cache won’t get wet or see animal interaction, you could trade stickers, seeds, and other usually ill-advised items here.
Thank you to the staff at Hope Library, especially director Cora Morrigan and assistant director Rebekah Hamilton - they were very enthusiastic and helpful! That said, there is no need to interact with any library staff.
Here is how to fill in the blanks (information needed can be found outside at the posted coordinates, below the heavy object made at the local foundry):
Once you have the blanks below filled in, enter the library through the main entrance, and stop in front of the desk.
Take a _____(fourth letter from end of whole north side inscription)______, passing the table and chairs on your left.
Take a _____(south side, first line, fourth word, third letter)_____, noting the elevator ahead of you.
Take a ____(south side, fourth line, second word from end, fourth letter)______ straight to the wall ahead, checking the ____(# of lines on whole north side)___ shelf up from the bottom for what you seek.
