Geocache Description:

01 January 2024, 11:15 - 11:45

After an enforced hiatus last year, when neither Dave nor I were able to organise an event, another chance for the caching community to get together in this wonderful, remote location to celebrate the New Year and burn off all that Christmas excess. There are fine views from Fur Tor, though of course these are not guaranteed!   The event will take pace at 1115-1145 hrs to give everyone the opportunity for a full day's Dartmoor caching out and back.

There is no recommended starting location for this event, but plenty of options.  In the past I have walked in from Baggator Gate, Postbridge, Row Tor, OP22, Meldon, the Dartmoor Inn at Lydford and Princetown (not recommended!). Just be prepared for a bit of a trek to reach the event, and be fully prepared with the necessary skills and equipment for a remote Dartmoor walk in potentially changeable weather conditions.   There is no military training planned to take place on any ranges on this date.

Please Note: This is a Military Training Area on which live firing and other pyrotechnics may be used. The area is generally open public access. One of the safety rules for public access is:- Do not, (and ensure that children do not) approach, touch or pick up any metal objects lying on the ground. Please obey all bylaws and locally posted information concerning times when the area may be closed. These may be physical barriers, marker posts, flags, lights or manned control posts.
