Geocache Description:

10 February 2024, 09:30 - 11:00

A food and geochat caching meetup for regulars and newbies, in the surroundings of the Ikea Restaurant in Belfast.

I did promise I'd do Ikea Belfasts again, but plans faltered due to a combiation of living in Cork, unavailability of weekends, sheer effort and the eye watering price of hotels. I could go to Spain on the same money as Belfast. But at long last, things have come together and a reasonable price has been found for a weekend up north. And so we have a Swedish Breakfast in the Belfast Ikea once again.

Saturday 10th February is the date for the Belfast segment of what has of course ended up being a weekender. My arteries may not thank me, but it'll be good to see everyone again and host an event here once more - it has been gnawing at me for some time and I know a lot of people missed these gatherings. So come join us early Saturday morning to fill your stomach, have your fill of geochat, and fill your mind with ideas for Saturday caching!

This event (in Belfast) will take place on Saturday 10th February from 930am - 1100am. We'll meet in the restaurant of Ikea (go in via the main entrance to the north of the carpark and just follow the stairs to the first floor) at one of the tables. The restaurant opens at 930am and I will have my food and be seated at about 945am. We typically sit in the same place everytime, so look towards the windows in the corner to the northwest of the restaurant overlooking the runway. I'll aim for there, but I haven't been here for a while and the restaurant loves changing its layout, so keep your eyes open.

There is however, absolutely no requirement to buy food or drink at the venue; however I would imagine it is hard to watch other people tearing into bacon and sausages when you're having nothing :) There is plenty of healthier food available, but I just can't resist a good fry....

This will be an opportunity to help travel bugs and geocoins on their way as well as eat a hearty breakfast ready for your own Saturday caching adventures. Bring your own personal coin/bug selection for discovery and bring your questions about that annoying puzzle along too. You may (or may not) get help! If you have any plans for upcoming caches, this event would be a great time to discuss them with the group. If you're thinking of going to your first event, come along! If you're thinking of a days shopping, why not tie it in with an event cache??

As an aside, believe it or not it is five years since the last SB in Belfast, which was edition #28, the Five Year Anniversary Spectacular. We've had the Ten Year Anniversary Spectacular since. Thats just horrifying, and I won't leave it so long next time.

To/from the event:
There is an absolutely incredible amount of free parking in the Ikea carpark so car is by far the best way to get here. Dublin cachers interested in coming should be aware that it is a two hour drive from the M1/M50 junction at the speed limit. From Cork it is about five hours so a nice early start. There are local bus services to GZ as well; it is a Saturday morning after all so I'm sure there will be plenty of them.
