Livonia Meet and Greet #137 : Jan. '24
llski's Streaking Celebration….
Why: Okay, so everyone who happens to be in attendance LOVES to geocache. Some have described the habits of those around us in that regard as "insatiable" and even somewhat “kooky”. It is true; when we got the geocaching bug, most of us fell hard. And due to this appetite, we ate up as much as we could, as fast as we could, clearing out most of the easiest geocaches within our home radius and then, over time, slowly cleaning up the "crumbs". I, of course, was no exception to this rookie error.
So last winter was mild. I didn’t start out to streak but how special was it to have no foliage, no bugs, no snow and an overall mild December, January, and half of February? Before I knew it, I had a streak going. Okay, okay, how long can I go? I didn’t plan on 366 days. As the months went by I started thinking, “You can’t stop now.” But was I expecting to fulfill a year-long streak when I would have to travel much further afield to get geocaches? No! Until I found myself planning the next day’s CAD. Once I hit 200 days I knew there was no turning back so it took patience, it took self-control, and it took travel. (And research)
I was very thankful to all my fellow geocachers every time a new hide was somewhat close to home. I certainly could NOT have done it without all the hiders out there.
So concludes my 366 days of finding at least one cache. Every. Single. Day. I will not continue this streak. I do not plan on ever doing this again. Streaking can make geocaching a chore and can take some of the fun out of it. I have to admit that all the stars aligned and made this streak possible but now I am free! LOL
Please join me in celebrating this auspicious achievement. I give all of you a pat on the back for without you and the mild winter last year I wouldn’t have started this journey to begin with.
