Fakten und Zahlen rund um die Kieler Kanalisation.

Von 1869 bis 1876 wurde in Kiel mit den Kanalbauten begonnen. Die ersten Rohre wurden im Zentrum Richtung Hafen verlegt. Der Bau für das Bülker System startete 1907 und wurde 1922 fertiggestellt. 

Zunächst floss das Abwasser aus den Haushalten ungefiltert an verschiedenen Stellen in die Förde. Ab 1880 wurden die Fäkalien verbindlich in sogenannten Goldeimern gesammelt, die zweimal pro Woche geleert wurden und als Dünger in der Landwirtschaft dienten. Darum kümmerten sich seit 1885 Mitarbeiter der Stadtentwässerung. Mit Inbetriebnahme des Bülker Systems floss das Schmutzwasser nur noch beim Bülker Huk in die Förde, 1972 – rechtzeitig zu den Olympischen Spielen – wurde das Klärwerk eingeweiht.

 Die Hauptkanäle für das Regenwasser sind 628 Kilometer lang, für das Schmutzwasser 570 Kilometer. Nicht mit enthalten sind die öffentlichen Grundstücksanschlusskanäle und Anschlussleitungen der Straßeneinläufe, die noch mal zwei- bis dreimal so lang sind wie die Schmutzwasser-Hauptkanäle. 

Durchschnittlich fließen 52 000 Kubikmeter Schmutzwasser pro Tag durch die Kanäle. 

Kiel hat etwa 72 000 Abflüsse. Davon sind die Hälfte Kanalschachtdeckel, die zum Einstieg in die Kanalisation dienen, die andere Hälfte sind Gullys, die Straßenabläufe für Regenwasser sind. 
Das Regenwasser fließt immer in das nächstgelegene Gewässer – in die Förde, den Nord-Ostsee-Kanal, die Schwentine, die Eider oder die Russeer Au. Schmutz- und Mischwasser werden zum Klärwerk nach Bülk geleitet. Das Kanalnetz muss ständig saniert werden.  Für die Sanierung, Erneuerung und Reparaturen werden pro Jahr 18 Millionen Euro benötigt. 

Zum Cache: 

Spezialwerkzeug vor Ort! Hier fließt kein Strom mehr! Hier kann es aufgrund des Fähranlegers manchmal recht muggelig zugehen. Bitte verhaltet euch dementsprechend! Entnehmt den Cache und geht zur Not in ausreichender Entfernung in Ruhe loggen, danach alles wieder ordentlich zurück. Danke

Welcome to the Schwentine pumping station!

It is in an idyllic location on the Schwentine! The Wellingsdorf Reventlou ferry pier is a stone's throw away.

Facts and figures about the Kiel sewer system:

Canal construction began in Kiel between 1869 and 1876. The first pipes were laid in the center towards the port. Construction for the Bülker system started in 1907 and was completed in 1922.

Initially, the wastewater from households flowed unfiltered into the fjord at various points. From 1880 onwards, the faeces were collected in so-called gold buckets, which were emptied twice a week and were used as fertilizer in agriculture. City drainage employees have been taking care of this since 1885. When the Bülker system was put into operation, the dirty water only flowed into the fjord at the Bülker Huk. In 1972 - in time for the Olympic Games - the sewage treatment plant was inaugurated.

The main channels for rainwater are 628 kilometers long and for dirty water 570 kilometers long. Not included are the public property connection sewers and connection pipes for the street drains, which are two to three times as long as the main dirty water sewers.

On average, 52,000 cubic meters of dirty water flow through the canals every day.

Kiel has around 72,000 drains. Half of these are manhole covers, which are used to access the sewer system, the other half are gullies, which are street drains for rainwater.
The rainwater always flows into the nearest body of water - the fjord, the Kiel Canal, the Schwentine, the Eider or the Russeer Au. Dirty and mixed water are sent to the sewage treatment plant in Bülk. The sewer network constantly needs to be renovated. 18 million euros are required per year for renovation, renewal and repairs.
