The Indoor League 2023: Final Round

Cribbage

And so we arrive at the end of the second full season of the Indoor League. This event is both the final game and the presentation ceremony!

This is primarily a geocaching event where cachers old and new can meet, share stories, plan trips, swap puzzle hints and exchange trackables. If this is your first event please say so in your log and we'll make a special effort to make you feel welcome.

Throughout 2023 there has been a series of ten events in and around the city of Lincoln, usually on the last Sunday of each month and each providing the opportunity to compete with other geocachers and win points in the Indoor League! Each event is a stand-alone event and you don't need to take part in the sport to attend- spectators are welcome and no purchase is necessary to log the event.

Points can be accumulated throughout the season to increase your chances of winning the League Trophy at the end of the season. We use the Formula One scoring system, with 25 points for a win, 18 for second, 15 for third then 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1.

The league table/scoresheet can be found here

There is also a Facebook group for anyone participating in the League
(As the geocache owner, I ensure that this links to a local geocaching group that is active in the community and contributing to geocaching in positive ways. This link has not been checked by Geocaching HQ or by the reviewer.)

Cribbage

Cribbage, or crib, is a card game, traditionally for two players, that involves playing and grouping cards in combinations which gain points. It can be adapted for three or four players.

Cribbage has several distinctive features: the cribbage board used for score-keeping; the cribbox, or kitty (in parts of Canada and New England); two distinct scoring stages; and a unique scoring system, including points for groups of cards that total 15. It has been characterized as 'Britain's national card game' and the only one legally playable in licensed pubs and clubs without requiring local authority permission.

Compared to some of the other events, you might want to do a bit of homework before this round! Cribbage is a card game where players take turns to place cards with the aim of getting as near as possible to a total of 31 without exceeding it. The rules we'll be using will be based on those found here. There are also a number of online versions of the game so that you can get some practice in, such as this one.

Please note:

  • The pub stops serving food at 4.30pm on Sundays
  • We are starting earlier than usual as the pub has asked us to be finished in good time for their quiz at 9pm.
  • Is anyone interested in staying on and forming a pub quiz team/s? If so, say so in your log and I'll let the pub know. (Maximum of 6 per team)
