Geocache Description:

Dimboola (the play) was written by Jack Hibberd and premiered in 1969 at the La Mama Theatre, Carlton, Victoria. The audience are guests at the reception for the above wedding and as one may know, receptions do not always go to plan. In 1979, it was adapted into a  movie where the opening has the guests arriving by train. This geocache starts with your arrival at the train station and participation in the wedding day festivities.

Good morning wedding guest. I hope that you had a comfortable ride up to Dimboola. Once you alight your train, please take some time to look at the information boards. In one photo (bottom of information board), there are men standing and sitting on sacks of grain. The number of men standing on the sacks in the right hand group is A.

You have arrived in plenty of time to check into the hotel and refresh yourself. There are only two hotels in town-it is your choice which one you 'stay' at as the answer will be the same at both.

Choice 1: the Victoria Hotel S36 27.302 E142 01.748

On the power pole outside the bar door are six numbers running vertically. The 2nd number from the top is B.

Choice 2: the Dimboola Hotel (pulled down after a fire in 2003, now the site of a garden and history boards) S36 27.228 E142 01.602

Find the list of proprietors. Margaret Ethal Currie was proprietor in 19B2.

You've unpacked your bag and freshened up. Got a clean hanky? Yes. Your new Sunday best hat? Yes. The time is right to head off to the church. It's a lovely day for a walk and a wedding. A good omen they say!

St Joseph's Catholic Church S36 27.032 E142 01.747

On the sign with the church name written on it there are four words at the top of the yellow section. How many letters are in the first two words (added together) minus 2? C

That was a beautiful service! Maureen looked lovely and Morrie was so handsome. Their parents were so proud of them, even Darkie had a tear in his eye. The priest did ramble on a bit, but don't they always. The flowergirl was very cute, especially when she asked, "When do we sing Happy Birthday?"! What to do whilst waiting for the reception to start? Looks like one will have to amuse oneself until 5.30pm.

5.30pm arrives and you make your way to the Mechanics Insitute at S36 27.262 E142 01.598

This building started out as the Lowan Shire Hall in what year? Add the 1st and 4th numbers for D.

*menu from Jack Hibberd, Selected Plays, 2020.

Between mains and dessert (and the bridal waltz) you need to go outside to get some fresh air. All that good country food, plus drinks and the cigarette smoke is enough to make one fall asleep at the table and that would never do. Besides, the wedding may have gone off without a hitch, but the reception has been very interesting and you don't want to miss a thing. And those two local 'wits', Bayonet and Mutton, have they added some colour to the night! Whist outside, you and a few friends get a bright idea and hunt down the honeymoon car, which you find hidden at S36 27.244 E142 01.587.

What year was the Rover manufactured? 19E

Satisfied with the decorations (maybe one more tinny is needed), you head back for dessert and the rest of the shindig, not before taking note of the numbers above the door into the Hall. The 2nd number is F

Auld Lang Syne has been sung, the happy couple have headed off (the Just Married sign did fall off before they got to the end of Lloyd Street and the trailing tinnies could be heard in Arkona) and you have one last thing to do...sign the wedding book.

The wedding book is located at S36 27. ABC  E142 01. DEF Please keep to the theme when signing.

Checksum South = 28            Checksum East = 20

Permission has been granted to place the geocache at gz. Enter from the street and take the path that goes to the right. The cache is at ground level on your left. There is a prize for FTF.

I hope that you found your accommodation satisfactory and that your return train trip was also enjoyable. Mr. and Mrs. M. McAdam thank you for your good wishes and present (the embroidered linen tablecloth and matching serviettes will look stunning on the new laminate table that they saved up for).

CONGRATULATIONS to Tiz13 for the FTF and thanks for the creative log entry.
