Geocache Description:

This cache could be difficult and potentially dangerous to reach during high tides. Beware and prepare. You can look up the predicted tides for this area on NOAA website.

Sea glass are shards of broken glass naturaly weathered in a sea. These are usually formed from bottles left behind by trash-tourists and your usual hope is for the piece to be weathered enough so you don't cut your foot. But in Davenport it's different. The legend has it that there was a heavy rainstorm in 70's causing the nearby San Vicente Creek to wash away bins of waste glass from a glass studio into the ocean. Unlike common bottles this glass has various artistic patterns and unique colors making the sea glass on Davenport's beach more rare and way less boring. Such sea glass pieces are readily found on this beach, especially after storms and large swells. Oftentimes you see semi-professional "hunters" with their sieves and shovels digging and searching.

Furthermore in the SE of this beach is a place called "Davenport Crack" where various nature elements created a deep crack in the rock bed of the creek. If you are lucky you get a nice splashy view of the Pacific perpetually filling the crack with foam and pushing it up the river.

This crack is where we recommend to start walking up the stream to reach the cache's location. It is a short and easy walk, unless the tide is high and strong waves are reaching the creek's mouth. In which case we do not recommend approaching the cache. Stay safe, leave it for another day, and go find some sea glass instead.
