This cache is at Fort Meigs, in Perrysburg, OH. Due to limitations
by The Ohio Historical Society, and the State of Ohio, this cache
must be a virtual cache. The area has be declared an archeological
site, and they would go nuts if they saw people rooting around
looking for cache boxes.
Soldiers at Ft. Meigs held the northwest for the U.S. in the War of
1812. This reconstructed log fort, one of the largest in the
nation, houses exhibits on the campaign and the lives of soldiers.
The fort's seven blockhouses appear as they did during the first
British siege in 1813, with walls two feet thick, four-inch-deep
windows, cannon-port shutters, and whitewashed interior walls. The
site will be reopened in May of 2003 with a new interpretative
visitors center, new exhibits, and a fully restored 10 acre fort.
For information call 800-228-8916, or vist www.ohiohistory.org In
the search box type in "Fort Meigs." At the posted location is an
Ohio Historical marker. To log this cache, e-mail me the number of
this marker, which is located in the lower right hand corner. Take
a picture if possible. Even though the fort in not officially open,
this marker is located near the parking lot and can be viewed
anytime. If you come this winter to log the find, consider coming
back in May to tour this great site. There is also another cache
nearby -"History's Backside" that will give you a great view of the
fort from the river side.
