Geocache Description:

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LEAVE THE ROAD TO FIND THE SPRING AND SEE THE "CLUE."Stop to quench your thirst* while you are geocaching in the Speculator area, find the necessary information, and continue to other interesting spots.

Due to the many problems logged in finding the original container at the spring, and private property issues, I turned the spring in to the starting point for a multi-cache a couple years after creating the original. The spring is in plain sight but there is no cache container at that location. Initially I had placed information about the clue location at the spring, but difficulty maintaining a physical clue with coordinate data while still avoiding trespass issues required a change in the hint, as follows:

To start, find the spring (easy). Do not leave the road. Stay off private property. Next, count the number of white columns on the porch of the yellow house nearby. This number is "A" in the following equation: A+1 = 2B.

The clue coordinates: N 43° A1.161' x W 74° BB.547'

At the clue coordinates you will find a plastic jar with partial coordinates and information to help you find the actual cache container. If you don't have an excellent memory, you might want to bring something to write on so you can copy some information when you find the clue. You may also wish to check for other nearby caches before continuing.

The final cache container is a standard ammo box. Gotta love those ammo cans. Same one since 2006 with virtually no maintenance required.

This cache requires some effort and using your geosense to figure outbut it does not require any long hike.

Please note that while many folks (including me) have been drinking the spring water for years, it is a natural untreated source.

*Note: The spring may be dry later in the summer.

If you are an Amateur Radio Operator, give a call on the Speculator repeater 147.165 (no pl). Several club members are geocachers. Maybe we can meet and compare notes.
