La carrière de Fresville est une ancienne carrière ayant exploité des marno-calcaires pour la production de ciment. La partie inférieure de la carrière est ennoyée et le front de taille actuel mesure environ 20 m de hauteur, divisé en plusieurs paliers sécurisés.Depuis 2008, cette ancienne carrière a été aménagée avec un parcours pédagogique autour du plan deau. Des panneaux explicatifs évoquent l'histoire industrielle du site et la géologie locale et régionale.
La Fracturation des roches
Des failles compressives affectent localement les alternances marno-calcaires.
Depuis le Point de Vue, vous pouvez observer un bel exemple de faille.
Au niveau du plan de faille, les bancs sont brutallement interrompus et des recristallisations de calcite apparaissent.
Sous l'effet des contraintes tectonites, les strates du compartiment A se sont soulevées et ont ployé. Celles du compratiment B se sont abaissés de 2 mètres environ.
Ce décalage apparent des bancs s'appelle le rejet de faille.

The Fresville quarry is a former quarry that exploited marl-limestone for the production of cement. The lower part of the quarry is flooded and the current working face is about 20 m high, divided into several secure landings.
Since 2008, this former quarry has been fitted out with an educational trail around the lake. Explanatory panels evoke the industrial history of the site and the local and regional geology.
Rock Fracturing
Compressive faults locally affect the marl-limestone alternations.
From the Viewpoint, you can observe a fine example of a fault.
At the level of the fault plane, the benches are abruptly interrupted and recrystallizations of calcite appear.
Under the effect of tectonite stresses, the strata of compartment A have been raised and bent. Those in compartment B were lowered by around 2 metres.
This apparent shifting of the benches is called fault rejection.

There are different types of faults following the type of tectonic movement. Here are 3 examples:

- The inverse fault, or overlap accompanies a compression; the compartment above the fault ("roof") rises from the compartment below the fault ("wall").
- The recess accompanies an essentially horizontal sliding movement; the pure recesses (vertical fault and horizontal displacement) are not accompanied by any vertical movement. The recesses can be dextral or sinistral, depending on whether the compartment opposite the observer moves to the right or the left (respectively).
