Geocache Description:

The 12 Days of Cachemas (TDOC23) is a series of 78 caches, events and adventure labs placed across Victoria to celebrate Cachemas in July in 2023. The series is a joint initiative of Geocaching Victoria and the local community to release caches in a different category each day across the state. We hope you have as much fun finding this series, as we had placing them. Now on to the cache.

On the ninth day of Cachemas, Signal gave to me,
nine letters boxing,
eight gadgets tricking,
seven TOTTs a-needing,
six events meeting,
five adventure labs,
four active CITOs,
three quirky challenges,
two earthcaches
and a wherigo up in a tree.

To begin your adventure, you will need to navigate to the published location. Here you will find three dynamic metal blades. A plaque here describes exactly what you’re looking at. Read the plaque. The length (number of letters) of the first word on the first line equals A. The length of the first word on the 2nd line equals B. The length of the first word on the third line equals C and the length of the first word on the fourth line equal D.

Now go to S 37 49.BDC, E 144 56.ACC to begin your adventure…

Introduction: What’s nicer than at Christmas, sitting around an open fire and enjoying some good poetry? Well obviously, that doesn’t happen in Australia much, but with Christmas in July we can maybe begin to experience it. And find a cache too!

The Cache: The premise is simple. Navigate your way to the published coordinates. Follow the cryptic poetry description from one location to another. Each projection will bring you to the next location where the poem continues until you find the light at the end. Literally!
The final geocache is at the base of that light.

The Poem:
At the place in which you stand,
Count the palms throughout the land.
Due north across the bridge you'll stroll,
And count the arches standing whole.

Beyond the road you'll spy a sight,
Some silver rings, all shining bright.
Now, times the rings by palms arranged,
and add the arches, and palms again.

This number sets your distance thence,
Look west from centre rings post hence.
The point your ardent eyes should seek,
Two intersecting axes, sleek.

One reflects the city's form,
The other shows the land before.
Traced by wind and Birrarung,
Count the elements from which the land had sprung.

Now here again you'll want to count,
Times the arches by above amount,
Add the palms times silver rings,
Hold the sum your counting brings.

Now that in metres thence you'll head,
Let west northwest your feet be led.
Arrive to find some trees times two,
That tell of what we're made of, too.

Stand betwixt those lofty trees,
And turn to face due east northeast.
Head four-thirty-four away,
And find a slug across the way.

Locate the distance of its span,
Times by elements; then plan.
To walk that distance due northeast,
And find a stand of trees, at least.

With the fingers on your hand,
Count the trees within the stand.
With that figure in your head,
Look and find the zebra spread.

Now times the trees in stand by two,
Plus, the rings you saw in lieu.
And then you'll want to take away,
The elements you found today.

This number then will be your light,
Walk north by that many trees on your right.
Eventually you'll find two poles,
With yellow bands like footy goals.

Count the number of the bands,
And multiply by trees in the stand.
Add the span of slug so blessed,
And walk that number due southwest.

Come across some statues masked,
Waiting for a revealing draft.
Each a unique colour dressed,
From here you'll need to walk southwest.

Past white statues of thirteen
Past eight people crouched in a scene.
Until you reach the last tall lamp,
At the base, your prize does camp.
