<flynn> Oh, man... this isn't happening. It only thinks it's happening...
You
have been thrust into the world of Tron.. This cache is a short yet
somewhat difficult multi-cache, situated in the Oxxford Hunt Greenway
in Cary. Please note that the above coordinates are wrong, you must
change the numbers around to get the correct location!
The cache
starts off about 50ft from my apartment, and never gets more than 50ft
away from it's gravel trail. If you are a good geocacher in a hurry,
you can finish this cache in 30 minutes, if you are new, you should
get it within 120 minutes. Experience required is minimal, but paying
very careful attention to keywords (especially the title of this geocache)
will definitely help. The items are well hidden and or deceiving (hence
the difficulty!). This geocache is also very safe to do during night
time, but bumps the difficulty up a notch.
The cache
has a futuristic/sci-fi theme, so be sure to stuff it with pocket lasers,
Star Wars propaganda, or similar. Please be extremely careful about
putting everything back exactly how you found it, ensuring that the
items will stay in place. There is a $50 bill for the first geocacher,
and random electronic & sci-fi toys inside.
* Tron smiles
<Tr0n> Remember you wanted to pay a call on the MCP?
* flynn nods.
<Tr0n> We're on our way!!!!!
* Tr0n points at the disk in his hand
<Tr0n> Alan-One gave me the coding we need to go up against Master
<flynn> All right. Thank God. Alan stayed awake, at least. Now I just
need to get him into this crazy world to help us out.
<Tr0n> If I go to the communications tower, I can try to relay a
message to him.
<flynn> Yes, see if you can patch him onto this channel.

<Alan> WASSUP!
<flynn> Where the hell have you been?
<Alan> Oh, sorry.. me and Lora have been, uhm.. pursuing other
activities.
<flynn> I need you to beam in and help Tron and I defeat the MCP.
Dillinger has hidden the laser. The good thing is I setup a tracking id.
<Alan> Oh? What's the catch.
<flynn> I don't remember the coordinates, but I did write them down,
and hid them. I hid directions near the entrance of Encom node-2503. The
base coordinates for the location are 35'46.373N 78'48.888W.
<flynn> Oh, You'll need to get the sound volume and fx volume from
gltron first, in order to receive the true coordinates.
Step
#1: Getting the coordinates to node-2503:
Take the
coordinates from the dialogue above. They are not correct, but require
you to download the glTron
game. The game is free, open-source, and only a 3MB download. Download version 0.6.1 of
the game from these locations:
Windows
users should download from here
Linux users should download from here
Mac OS X users should download from here
Mac OS Classic users should download from here
FreeBSD users should type "pkg_add -r gltron"
Run the game,
and from the main menu select AUDIO. Jot down the MUSIC VOLUME percentage
(for example, 65), and the FX VOLUME percentage (for example, 35). These numbers must add up to 100, or you have the wrong version of gltron.
Oh,
and if you want to actually play glTron, you will want to change the
default left-right keys most likely.
Then, subtract
the MUSIC VOLUME from the latitude (for example 23'235.020N becomes
23'234.085N). Add the FX VOLUME to the longitude (25'502.303E becomes
25 502.338E).
<Alan> Okay.. I got the correct coordinates, now what?
<flynn> Hope you don't mind getting your toes wet.
Step #2: Getting to node-2503:
My advice
is to park off of Brampton Lane (my place is on 107-2D) The cache is
right next to the lake, so depending on the water level, your shoes,
socks, and hands may get wet. If people are walking the trail, you may
want to hold off, because you are going to look pretty weird. If people
are standing in the nearby field with their dogs, it's either me, or
my neighbors, and they already know you are there for the geocache.
You will be looking for an out of place item with coordinates written
on them.
<flynn> Any luck?
<Alan> I just can't find it!
== Tron sets title "Beneath Encom" on channel #encomunderground
<Tr0n> If you are already at Encom, just think about the title!
* Alan gives a puzzled face
<flynn> You've gotten this far, you can't give up yet!
<Alan> DOH! There it is.. wait, what the heck? There are 2 sets of
coordinates on here!
<flynn> I just wanted to make sure the MCP didn't catch on.
Step
#3: Once you've found the the marker at node-2503:
The item
has two sets of coordinates on it. The one you want is the closest combination
of them, which should only be about .1mi away. The others should be
way off. Just follow the trail around the lake to the closest longitude/latitude.
<Alan> Okay guys.. I figured out the coordinates to the laser, and
walked down the trail to them, but I don't see anything.
* Tr0n laughs.
<Tr0n> Find the most obvious place to sit..
<flynn> once ya take a seat, it'll be right under your nose.
<Tr0n> Oh, and the theme of the cache helps too!
<flynn> I'll be waiting there for you.. should I run into any
trouble, I'll leave a note for you.
<Tr0n> Make sure Sark is not lurking nearby.
== Alan has quit IRC (Connection closed)
Step
#4: Uncovering the laser
Now that
you have followed your GPS unit to the nearest set of coordinates, you
should just pick the only obvious place to sit nearby, and listen to
Flynn and Tron. You should find the cache shortly.
<Alan> TRON... TRON... Location query... location query... Confirm.
<Tr0n> Confirmed, Alan-One.
* Alan breathes a sigh of relief.
<Alan> There you are... look, before we get cut off again...
<Tr0n> ACK.. gotta run! BBL!
* Tron is away (beware of the leper!)
