How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

24 June 2023, 10:30 - 11:30

WHAT:

Travel Bug (TB) Race - launch 🚀 event

WHERE:

South Port Church parking lot (between Port Elgin and Southampton).

WHO:

Everyone is invited even if you do not wish to participate in the travel bug race.

HOW (RACE RULES):

For those who would like to participate in the TB race, bring a new, ACTIVATED trackable and join us as the TBs blast off, reach for the stars, head to infinity and beyond!

1. Create a profile for, and activate your TB prior to the event. Mission wording is up to you, but if you'd like to see samples, click on these: StarBirds Racer TB9H23V and Astro the Aardvark TB9EFKA.

2. Hand in your activated TB to the event organizers at or before the event.

3. Event organizers will prepare the official list of race participants and transport them to a new cache created for this event and published that morning. The list of race participants will be added to the cache description.

4. TB owners will electronically log their TBs as dropped off in the cache.

5. TBs will then travel according to normal rules but they cannot travel with their owner.

6. Occasional race progress reports will be posted on the Saugeen Shores Geocachers Facebook Page.

7. The race end date will be in one year - we will create another event for this.

8. Prizes will be awarded for the TB that:

- travelled the greatest distance

- was moved by the most geocachers

- visited the most caches

- has the most photos uploaded to its profile

WHY:

For fun! Meet local and hopefully out-of-town geocachers. And if you're not sure what we mean by travel bug or "TB hotel", or want to learn more about geocaching in general, this is a great opportunity to learn all about it.

BONUS INFO:

We are working on a new geocache - a TB space capsule! Stay tuned.
All attendees qualify for a draw for door prizes (we have a few!) We will also have some geocaching paraphernalia to share.
Everyone is welcome to bring other TBs to exchange or to be discovered.
If you aren't sure what a TB is but would like to participate in the race, contact the event organizers and we will help you out.
