In 2022, we had the trip of a lifetime that included some amazing Geocaching "Down Under" where we met some incredible CO's, now "mates", who have inspired us to "recreate" the first event of this type to be held in Europe. We hope you can join us, Mate.

In Australia, "Mateship" is a cultural idiom that embodies equality, loyalty and friendship. It is a concept that can be traced back to our early colonial times. The harsh environment in which convicts and new settlers found themselves meant that men and women closely relied on each other for all sorts of help. In Australia, a 'mate' is more than just a friend and is a term that implies a sense of shared experience, mutual respect and unconditional assistance.
Having said that, the term “mate” can also be used for the first time you meet someone, especially when you don’t know their name. For example, “G’day mate, nice to meet you!!” or “Hey mate, are you Geocaching?” or when someone you don’t know helps you, “Thanks mate, I really appreciate what you’ve done.”
For the last two years, on the 8th May, Calypso62 has held an event to celebrate one of the best things he likes about Geocaching, the geo-mates one meets through this great activity. It’s a time when we can catch up with old geo-mates and make lots of new ones, and celebrate that friendship. As many of you have done, we’ve made so many great geo-mates all around the world and thank Calypso62 for inviting us to host this first event here in Andalucia. So, to celebrate this 2023 GeoMay8 Day, I invite all geocachers to come along and regale us with stories of your geocaching adventures, swap hints on how to solve some puzzle caches, discover and retrieve trackables and enjoy a coldie or three and some tasty tucker/Aussie for food, if you wish. A logbook will be available for you to sign.

Catering: This is a great "chippy" aka British fish-n-chips for meals as well as a variety of coffees and cake available. Other beverages can be purchased from the bar. NOTE: It is cash only
Bookings: We will have a reserved area for us outside, but I will need to give the owners an idea of how many people will be attending. In your "Will Attend" log, please indicate the number from your team who will be coming along. I will be contacting the venue two days prior to the event with numbers.
Purchases: There is no compulsion for you to make any purchases while attending this event.

Desde hace dos años, el 8 de mayo, Calypso62 realiza un evento para celebrar una de las mejores cosas que le gustan del Geocaching, los geo-mates que uno conoce a través de esta gran actividad. Es un momento en el que podemos ponernos al día con viejos geo-mates y hacer muchos nuevos, y celebrar esa amistad. Como muchos de ustedes han hecho, hemos creado muchos geo-mates geniales en todo el mundo y agradecemos a Calypso62 por invitarnos a organizar este primer evento aquí en Andalucía. Por lo tanto, para celebrar este GeoMay8 Day de 2023, invito a todos los geocachers a que nos acompañen y nos cuenten historias de sus aventuras de geocaching, intercambien consejos sobre cómo resolver algunos cachés de acertijos, descubran y recuperen rastreables y disfruten de una o tres bebidas frías y algo sabroso "tucker"/Aussie para la comida, si lo desea. Un libro de registro estará disponible para que lo firme.
