Geocache Description:

Hi Gang – Once again ignore the above locations they’ll only tell you this geocache is on Vancouver Island.

We’re hoping the standards of caches improve somewhat with more exciting things – you don’t have to throw in cash, but let’s have more excitement rather than defective rubber bands, talking string, silly putty, etc.

Our current new series of caches are even more exciting – look out for GPS devices, CD’s, more GPS trickery and cash! – Most of our current series of caches run in dollar value from $200.00 to $1,000.00 CDN each!!

This contest will take you into remote country! A high clearance or four wheel drive vehicle is required. We’re currently using a 19 degree E compass declination.

Note on the 1 to 50,000 scale Federal Gov’t Topographic Maps the small drawing on the edge of the page. It shows how far east or west “Grid” north is from true north. It is given in degrees and minutes and also in mils.

Note
1 mil = 360 degrees divided by 6400 equals 0.05625 degrees
1 degree =6400 mils divided by 360 equals 17.778 mils
1 mil is 1/6400 of a circle

To convert from degrees to mils, multiply the number of degrees by 17.778. To convert from mils to degrees multiply the number of mils by 0.05625.

Here’s how to get to the Cape Fear Geocache apart from a lot of money and goodies, this Geocache has CD’s by Robin Brock, Vigilance Black and Bette Midler!

You’ll need information to complete this puzzle. Try some trigonometry, bring a good pair of binoculars, a compass and a good altimeter. Your GPS altimeter is too inaccurate. You’ll have to go into the high country. Boy are we ever being kind! – Go to UTM 430732.193 East and 5376923.376 North elevation 808.22 meters. You’ll be standing by a stump with a large pink “X” on it.

Get out your binoculars, look down at 291 degrees T. Look for a bridge, and just beyond it you’ll see a gate with 2 Red Posts. Figure out the distance in meters from the stump to the Red Post on the right. Remember, this is not a horizontal (GPS) distance, so measurements won’t be the same (they’ll be out a bit) if you simply take your GPS to both locations the distances will differ.

Now go to 428211.342 East and 5377818.536 North elevation 863 meters. You’ll be standing on a Pink Arrow, on a large rock. Get out your binoculars, sight at 152 ½ degrees true (deviation 19 degrees E) to a giant white colored rock located just above a road (it would weigh many tons and is part of the terrain – not a rock you could move). Figure out the distance from the Pink Rock you’re standing on to the “White Rock” outcrop. The actual cache is one meter at 110 degrees true from the ESE edge of a very large stump with 3 pink dots on the top of it and a GPS tag #005.

Here’s The drill.
ADD the distance from the stump to the Red Post to this Easting 430111.651 East and add the distance from the Pink Arrow on the rock to the White Rock to this Northing 5374788.380 North.

The numbers you determine will get you to the Geocache.

If you’re first there, your retirement will be earlier than planned.

Remember these caches can get to $1,000.00 in value. Stay alert and stay tuned to TEAM KFWB-GPS!
