Cartoline dal passato – Il lido di Verona

Sono luoghi che nel passato avevano una destinazione, una connotazione completamente diversa dall’attuale. Altri sono ancora quelli ma con una lunga storia che vale la pena ripercorrere o ricordare. Ecco potrete trovarvi in un luogo bellissimo, oppure sul ciglio di una strada o forse anche … ai confini della realtà.

La vista che oggi avete di queste piscine in completo abbandono ed in mano a frequentatori poco raccomandabili non è quella che c’era agli inizi degli anni ‘30 quando venne inaugurata la “piscina più grande d’Europa” lunga 250 metri e larga 50 e che aveva da un lato una piscina per le gare di nuoto (non erano molte all’epoca le vasche lunghe 50 metri) ed una piattaforma per i tuffi che arrivava sino ai 10 metri.

Nelle foto vedete che era un vero e proprio lido dove si andava per nuotare, giocare, andare in barca e…. fare nuove conoscenze.

Negli anni 70 questa enorme vasca di cemento è stata modificata con nuove vasche che, fino a qualche anno fa erano ancora utilizzate; ma poi …. forse gli eccessivi costi, forse incapacità di gestire un simile luogo ed ecco che tutto è andato in rovina, con il “benestare” di tutte le amministrazioni che si sono succedute in questi anni. Ma non è questo il luogo per fare polemica.

Ora l’unica piscina manutenuta è quella olimpionica che è pure il Centro Federale di Nuoto dove si allenano gli atleti della nazionale, Pellegrini compresa.

Anche qui, chiudete gli occhi ed immaginate questa immensa vasca di cemento piena di gente che schiamazza e si diverte …. ah si se guardate all’estrema sinistra dove c’era la piscina olimpionica e la piattaforma per i tuffi potete anche incrociare lo sguardo di questo personaggio che qui ha gareggiato prima di diventare l’attore che lo ha reso famoso.

Here you can find yourself in a beautiful place, or on the side of a road or perhaps even ... on the twilight zone.

 The view that you have today of these swimming pools in complete abandonment and in the hands of disreputable visitors is not the one that existed in the early 1930s when the "largest swimming pool in Europe" was inaugurated, 250 meters long and 50 meters wide; on one side there were a pool for swimming competitions (there weren't many 50-metre-long pools at the time) and a diving platform that reached up to 10 metres.

In the photos you can see that it was a real lido where people went to swim, play, go by boat and…. meet new people.

In the 70s this big concrete swimming pool was modified with a new project and were used until a few years ago; but then …. perhaps the excessive costs, perhaps the inability to manage such a place and everything went to ruin, with the "approval" of all the administrations that have followed one another in recent years. But this is not the place to argue.

Now the only swimming pool maintained is the Olympic one which is also the Federal Swimming Center where the athletes of the national team train, including Federica Pellegrini.

Now, close your eyes and imagine this huge concrete swimming pool full of people making noises and having fun …. ah yes if you look to the far left where there was the Olympic swimming pool and the diving platform you can also catch the eye of this character who competed here before becoming a famous actor.
