Welcome to the top of Point Reyes Hill! At 1342', it is listed as Peak 63 of the Nifty Ninety peaks of the Bay Area. I made a public list of the closest geocaches to those 90 peaks, and noted that the nearest one to this peak was over 0.5 miles. I decided to rectify that and "bag" this peak in the process, and the result is this cache. I was on a quest with hiking buddy tiptop3 who got me turned on to the challenge of finding all 90. If you're a fan of the list, come try the two Encouragement Caches we've created to honor the 90 (Tier 1 and Tier 2).
Point Reyes Hill is within the purview of Point Reyes National Seashore, so no physical caches are allowed within that territory. So this is done as a multi, with the final container outside of National lands, and not too far away. I'll let you know it is to the southeast, but I've provide 2 suggested trailheads. We chose the Inverness Ridge Trailhead and the result was a 2:30 hour 8 mile roundtrip hike/jog, though we included nearby Mt Vision on our trip. You could also try Perth Way parking, though I don't have any experience with this options.
Now for the multi instructions. At GZ, besides the phenomenal views, you should see a nice dedication bench. To "solve" for the final, you'll need to know the name of the person this bench is dedicated to, a purportedly remarkable woman. The final container is at N38 04.ABC W122 51.DEF. Answer these questions to get A-F:
- A: Number of letters in last name
- B: Ones-digit value of first name first letter
- C: Ones-digit value of last name second letter
- D: Number of letters in first name
- E: Ones-digit value of first name last letter
- F: Number of letters in displayed middle name
The checksum for A-F is 21.
The container is a hanger in the woods, see hint for more details. Good luck, and enjoy the hike and the views!
Update 11/23/2022: Congratulations to aliasmom for the FTF!
