Counties - Devonshire is the 5th instalment of a challenging series based on English counties. The other caches in the series so far are on Norfolk, Yorkshire, Essex and Lincolnshire.
Devon was a county I frequented a lot as a kid. I have fond memories of going to Plymouth during school holidays to see family. We'd go on day trips to Dartmouth, Exmouth and nearby National Trust properties and often stop for lunch in a pub on Dartmoor. I recall us finding an old letterbox cache in an ice-cream van on Dartmoor, you just had to ask the ice-cream man for the box. I guess this was my first caching experience.

Devon straddles a peninsula and so, uniquely among English counties, has two separate coastlines: on the Bristol Channel and Celtic Sea in the north, and on the English Channel in the south. It is a large, sprawling county, the third biggest in the UK. It's approximate coastal corner points are:
1) The Northwest coast near the hamlet of Mead and Welcombe Beach (BRISTLE.FLAUNTING.SWAM)
2) The Tamar Bridge in the Southwest linking Saltash,Cornwall with Plymouth (LEAP.CARRY.RESIST)
3) Chippel Bay in the Southeast, close to the Dorset village of Beer (STEAMS.SPRINGING.IMPLY)
4) The Northeast Somerset coastal border, east of Lynton (INSPECTED.ACOUSTICS.MEANDERS)
