As may not be too much of a surprise, Cacher Craig is yet another stats obsessed Geocacher. One aspect of this includes keeping track of all his finds in Google Earth. Unfortunately it used to be the case that certain specific Geocaches with a certain specific property would have the effect of corrupting the "My Places" database in a minor but noticeable way. Fixing it involved a complicated part manual and part automated process that had to be done every time the program was opened. Searching online revealed reports of others plagued with the same issue dating back years, but no remedy in sight. One day, completely out of the blue, a survey popped up inside of Google Earth itself seeking feedback. Cacher Craig explained exactly what was causing the problem, how it could be fixed, and why it mattered for his use case. Astonishingly it was soon fixed. Coincidence or causation?
