World Wide Flash Mob (WWFM): Refurbishing the Cathedral

Today's Flash Mob event is just a bit of fun, where we all dress as construction workers and pretend that we're eyeing up the Cathedral for refurbishment and/or development!

The annual WFM is a fun and friendly way to promote geocaching around the world. Thousands of geocachers at dozens of coordinated events spanning the globe, gathering at the same time. Sonny and Sandy from San Diego, California came up with the WWFM idea in 2007 after attending a mega-event. WWFM events occur across the planet on the same day at (mostly) the same time! These caching events are intended to bring geocachers together in a creative way, as well as introduce others to the hobby.

I've not done a WWFM event for a while. My last one was at Victoria Falls in Zambia and I was the only person there!

Here's what you have to do:

Before the event: You will need a high-vis jacket and/or trousers, boots, maybe a hard hat, safety glasses, a tape measure, pencil behind the ear, notebook etc. In short, anything that makes you look like a construction worker (NO SHARP TOOLS  PLEASE!)

Before 11am: Gather nearby but not at the coordinates. Wait until the first 'DONG' at 11am and then wander over to the the meeting place.

11am: As soon as you hear the Cathedral bells strike 11am with the first DONG, wander over to GZ. Begin measuring, eyeing up the Cathedral, making notes, shaking your head and sucking your teeth etc.

After we've done that for a few minutes, relax, chat to other cachers, welcome newcomers, swap travelbugs etc etc. There will be a game of Geocaching Bingo to determine who gets to claim 'FTF' for the event. There will be a logbook to sign as well, and a group photo in front of the Cathedral. All of these activities are optional. To claim the event, all you have to do is be there between 11am and 11.30am!

The event will finish at 11.30, whereupon we will decide which local hostellery to retire to for refreshmnents. See you all there!
