Geocache Description:

12 August 2022, 22:30 - 23:00

Simon Goes Stargazing 003 - The Perseids meteor shower is back for 2022!

I have been a keen astronomer for over 10 years, with one of my favourite aspects of the night sky being the occasional glance of a meteor (shooting star) streaking through the black. August brings with it the Perseids meteor shower which, at its peak, can produce up to 100 meteors per hour.

To see a meteor for yourself, all you need is a dark clear sky and your naked eyes, open as wide as you can to take in as much of the sky as possible. It's also best to lay down so perhaps bring a blanket to keep off the grass. It can get chilly so bring plenty of layers and a snack or two too!

I will be on site from 22:00 with a logbook for cachers to sign if they wish and, weather depending, will stay out as long I can. I will keep an eye on the weather, but if it turns out cloudy, it’ll be a short, late-night social lasting just ½ an hour.

When arriving on-site, please keep lights of all kinds to a minimum to preserve your night vision and the others around you, hopefully, there should be enough space for all to lay down and enjoy the show.

I will be in a hi-viz, please come and say hi and try not to stand on any stargazing cachers!

Please get in touch if you have any questions
