Memories of Sumas
My great grandfather was Russ Lambert. He was an attorney and incorporated Sumas in 1891. He was very involved in setting up the government and did many other things. He also was a gold prospector and along with a partner set up the Lone Jack Mine. My grandfather Sidney Lambert was a pillar of the community as well. He was a teacher, superintendent of schools, town leader and town elder and historian. He did a lot in keeping the tiny town of Sumas alive. Those days are over and sadly Sumas has changed so much over the years. Even from when I used to visit it has expanded and shrunk depending on the needs from Canada to a country place to live for commuters to Bellingham. I have many fond memories of Sumas and try to get back there when I can to visit my old haunts. This cache is in honor is in of my family and the past and what Sumas used to be.
