This is a 2 stage multi cache with parking at the start point. We went to a wedding here and realised the Memorial had no cache with it, so decided to place one. There is also a Church Micro cache here, so the final for this is about half a mile away by road to find a suitable safe hide and maintain the distance between caches. When you have the co-ords go north on A19, i.e. go right at the Church road end and exit the A19 at the next road to the left. This is a very busy dual carriageway so please take great care
Leake War Memorial is in the grounds of St. Mary's Church and is an angled square stone base with a tapered shaft topped with a wheel in a circle followed by the carved years –
1914
1919
The memorial is dedicated –
TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE
FOLLOWING MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO
GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR
COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WARS.
The dedication is followed by 12 names of men who fell in the World War 1914 - 1919
There follows the heading 1939 - 45 with the names of two who fell in that World War
The co-ordinates bring you to the gate near the memorial and using the information about those commemorated the co-ordinates for the final cache location is calculated as follows:-
The final cache can be found at N54° 18.ABC W001° 20.DEF where
A = Number of letters in the surname of the 3rd named hero in the 2nd column of the first war group
B = Number of letters in the surname of the 5th named hero in the 2nd column of the first war group
C = Number of named heroes with the surname Smith
D = The fifth digit of the dates shown on the tablet.
E = Number of named heroes with the surname Jones
F = Number of named heroes with the surname Grainger
Checksum = 21 and tweezers would probably be helpful at the final
Please ensure after signing that the cache is returned as you find it and, as always, give appropriate respect to the memorial and its surroundings.
