Fun Facts:

On this date in 1775 - The United Colonies changed their name to the United States.

In 1965, the NASA Gemini 4 spaceflight mission was completed after 4 days, 66 Earth orbits, and splashdown/recovery in the North Atlantic Ocean. This was the second crewed spaceflight of the Gemini project.  This mission featured the first ever EVA (extra-vehicular activity, aka “space-walk”) by an American; Ed White floated, tethered, in space for about 20 minutes while his traveling partner, James McDivitt remained in the capsule (and had to talk White back in!).  They also performed several scientific experiments in space (a first for Americans), including use of a sextant to investigate the use of celestial navigation for lunar flight in the Apollo program.  Interestingly, the back-up crew for this flight consisted of Frank Borman (first flight on Gemini 7) and James Lovell (commander of the ill-fated Apollo 13 flight).

In 1939, King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, arrived in the U.S. It was the first visit to the U.S. by a reigning British monarch.  And to think, it only took them a bit over 150 years to do this!

Lastly, in 2014 - In Arlington, TX, about 105,000 people attended country music legend George Strait's final concert at AT&T stadium. The show set a record for the largest crowd for an indoor concert in North American history.

Here's the usual spiel…

This event is open to all geocachers, no matter what your statistics say or whether you even like puzzles!  Newbies and addicts, socialites and lone wolves, mark your calendar.

If you've got a puzzle or mystery cache that's currently got you stumped, this event is for you!

This is an unstructured think-tank assembly where you can collaborate on the latest tantalizing quizzler on your radar.  Much learning comes from working with others to solve a targeted teaser, and there may be a short tutorial thrown in once in a while.  You don't have to work on puzzles to attend; there are always good stories to be heard and told.  However, you'll have plenty of others to bounce ideas around with, and you might discover someone has solved a puzzle using a similar technique.  We continue to see successes and progress at each gathering.

For the puzzle junkies, bring your puzzle paraphernalia - flagged caches, laptop or tablet (Wi-Fi is available), theories, library card, worksheets, (sp)eye glasses, flight plans, Enigma machine, abacus, scratch paper (don’t forget your writing instrument) - you never know who, or what, will show up, and from whom you can gain an advantage.  Have you recently cracked a tough one and want to see others’ wheels spinning?  That could be very entertaining!  Yes, we have regular head-slapping moments!
