Fernando II (nome completo em alemão: Ferdinand August Franz Anton von Sachsen-Coburg-Koháry; Viena, 29 de outubro de 1816 – Lisboa, 15 de dezembro de 1885) foi o segundo marido da rainha D. Maria II e Príncipe Consorte de Portugal, de 1836 até 1837, altura em que se tornou Rei de Portugal e dos Algarves por direito da sua esposa. Era o filho mais velho do príncipe Fernando de Saxe-Coburgo-Gota e da sua esposa, a princesa Maria Antónia de Koháry.
Fernando casou-se com D. Maria em 1836, tornando-se príncipe consorte de Portugal. Em conformidade com a lei portuguesa da época, D. Fernando apenas seria rei com a sua esposa após o nascimento do seu primeiro filho, que nasceria um ano depois, o futuro rei D. Pedro V.
D. Maria II morre em 1853, terminando igualmente o reinado de D. Fernando II. No dia em que enviuvou prestou juramento perante o Conselho de Estado como Regente do Reino, repetindo o juramento uma semana depois perante as Cortes, exercendo estas funções até à maioridade de D. Pedro V em 1855.
Como amante das belas-artes, focou-se durante toda a sua vida nas artes, o que lhe valeu o cognome de o Rei Artista.

Altogether the route is 2,2km/1,36Mi long and actually consists of two connected trails, being the smaller 1,5km/0,93Mi and more accessible, since the second trail is slightly more aggressive, and yet absolutely tolerable.

Fernando II older son of Prince Fernando de Saxe-Coburgo-Gota and his wife Princess Maria Antónia de Koháry, full name in German: Ferdinand August Franz Anton von Sachsen-Coburg-Koháry; Vien, October 29th, 1816 – Lisbon, December 15th, 1885, was the second husband of Queen D. Maria II and Prince consort of Portugal from 1836 to 1837 when he became King of Portugal and Algarves.
Fernando married D. Maria II in 1836 but according to the Portuguese Royal law he would only become king together with his wife, for the occasion of the birth of his firstborn son in 1837. This firstborn would later become D. Pedro V, King of Portugal.
D. Maria II perished in 1853 and this event also terminated the reign of D. Fernando II. Before the Council of State we took the oath, repeated also in the Royal Assembly, as Regent Prince and fulfil his duties until the majority of D. Pedro V in 1855.
