Geocache Description:

30 May 2022, 08:45 - 09:15

Please do not park on Mill street. There is plenty of parking on other side streets.

Memorial Day which was known as Decoration Day is a time to remember the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. It originated during the American Civil War when citizens would place flowers on the graves of those who had been killed in battleAll the northern states had a Decoration Day they celebrated by 1890. It was the two World Wars that turned Decoration Day into the National Day of Remembrance of Memorial Day.

This federal holiday is now observed on the last Monday of May. Many people observe this holiday, the same as Decoration Day was, by visiting memorials and grave sides of those who have fallen during their time of service. Many people volunteer to put a gold star or American Flag on the grave sites as a way of remembrance.

There are two other days to celebrate those who have are serving in the U.S. military or have served in the military. In early May there is Armed Forces Day, to honor those who are currently serving in the armed forces, and November 11 is Veterans Day for those that have served in the armed forces.

Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial beginning of summer in the United States.

After the event please join us for a hometown parade from town to the Military Memorial on M-15. The parade will start at 9:30 am, 15 minutes after the event ends. The route will be down MIll Street across M-15 to the cemetery where there will be a military fly over and tribute to the fallen.

As usual there will be coffee and snacks for the event. There will be 2 FTF for the event.

Please do not park on Mill street. There is plenty of parking on other side streets.
