West Midlands 2022
The Long March
In 1870 we have an entry for Coton-in-the-clay in the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales: “a township in Hanbury parish, Stafford; on the river Dove, and the North Stafford railway, 3¼ miles W of Tutbury. Pop., 72. A viaduct of the North Stafford railway, 114 feet high, and 693 feet long, is in the neighbourhood.”
Just to the east of the hamlet you can see the remains of a raised causeway – the dismantled tramway that used to run from the Fauld mines to the railway junction at Scropton.
🚌
The 402 bus passes by here - the unmarked stop is in the hamlet itself to the east, by Nursery Cottage.
Use the timings for Moreton +/- a few mins
