Records indicate a church on this site in 1830, and a stone on the front plinth indicates that it was a Wesleyan Methodist Church. Though details are sketchy it is believed the church building was in use until 1991 when the Methodist Church joined with the United Reformed Church (which is further south along the high street).
I thank frenchboy for his help with this cache, he was able to dig up the information about the church and also suggested a suitable hiding place when we were struggling, his assistance was invaluable.
There was a church micro here from 2013-2020 (GC4Q00G), this is a replacement; same church but different final location.
